Living Green
Environmental Action Barrie – Living Green is a Barrie-based charity dedicated to promoting a safe and healthy environment and helping our community to live green.
Living Green works to increase public awareness of environmental issues, to educate people so that informed and environmentally-wise lifestyle and consumer choices can be made, and to spearhead new community initiatives or partnerships (such as FruitShare) that will protect our ecological heritage.
Transition Barrie
Transition Barrie is a volunteer, grass-roots initiative with the objective of helping Barrie prepare for the approaching challenges of Increasingly Expensive Energy, Climate Chaos and Financial Instability. The key concept of Transition is that of ordinary citizens taking action towards positive change. These efforts are shaped and guided by all who are able to participate. The goal is a more vibrant, more resilient community through the re-localization of the services and resources required to survive and thrive in changing times.
As of February 2, 2010 Transition Barrie joined the official worldwide Transition Network becoming part of other Transition groups across Canada and the world.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit
Simcoe Muskoka
District Health Unit (Healthy Living Service) is pleased to support the FruitShare Barrie program.
There are many benefits when everyone in the community can experience food security. Food security is when people can easily obtain and afford safe, healthy and familliar food. “food secure” communities value local food and work to perserve and protect the land, water and other resources needed to produce food. Eating a healthy diet is an important way to stay healty and reduce your risk of chronic diseases. We are pleased to be working together with FruitShare Barrie to protect our urban canopy as a food resource for our community.
Call the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to explore supports for your community food project and to order food security resources.
