Warm Canadian Winter Fruit Salad

Makes 4 servings

Thanks to modern storage techniques, fresh apples and pears are available in Canada all year long. How lucky we are to be able to enjoy fresh fruit in the winter!

1 tsp butter or non-hydrogenated margarine 5 mL
1 tsp pure maple syrup 5 mL
1 cooking apple, such as Granny Smith, peeled and cut into 8 wedges 1
1 pear, peeled and cut into 8 wedges 1

In a large nonstick skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add maple syrup, swirling to coat pan. Add apple and pear wedges; cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, turning to brown lightly on all sides.
